All sponsors and volunteers of the 2011 Sibbald’s Point Family Ice Fishing Event:
On behalf of the Ministry of Natural Resource’s, I would like to convey a heartfelt thank you, to you and all the sponsors and volunteers led by local event chair Paul Kirby, who were ready, willing and able to make this ice fishing day a huge success. For months prior, plans were made, logistics were put into place, equipment was gathered, participants were registered, a new location was secured and prizes were acquired – all to make this event bigger and better than ever before.
And … then, Mother Nature threw us a curve ball!
The most intense wind storm that area has seen in several years began the night prior to our planned event. Gusts of 100 kmph winds reeked havoc with roads and closures were commonplace. Out on the lake, the situation was even more treacherous and total whiteouts the morning of the event re-affirmed that the decision to cancel was the only safe option.
Despite the cancellation of this years event, we are still committed to ensuring opportunities to promote Family Fishing like this receive our support. For all those who provided prizes, I understand they will be retained for next year – and we are already looking forward trying it again in 2012.
Once again thank you very much for your support of this community event. Despite this year’s cancellation, you can be proud of your personal commitment and hard work.
Thank you!
