Holland landing was named after Samuel Holland the first surveyor general of upper Canada only after it's incorporation as a village in 1831.
It was the first settlement on Lake Simcoe and John Eves built the first sawmill in the area.
Soon after he built a gristmill, a flour mill, and a woolen mill, followed by a tavern, a foundry, offices and stores.
The first steamer on Lake Simcoe was built here in 1832.
